Check out some of our projects to get ideas.

  • From farms to wildlands to residences to urban gardens and more, we are excited to collaborate with you and help design a soil, composting, and/or planting plan that brings more biodiversity, ecosystem function, and resilience to the land you care for.

Starting with the soil, we consider a project from all of the perspectives we can, scaling down to the microbes, scaling up to the animals and humans on the land and to the larger elements such as water, fire, and wind and how they fit into the temporal dimensions of past land use, present condition, and future possibilities.

  • We got into this work because we love to get our hands dirty and meet new people and the land they love. If you would like us to take a design project fully through installation, we are happy to do that. If you already have a design and it aligns with our ethics of land care, we can help with various aspects of installation from soil treatments to plantings to water works to materials delivery. We have equipment for treating larger plots (10+ acres) efficiently. We are also blessed with a large network of collaborators; if we can’t do it, we can probably help you find someone who can.

  • Saber es poder (knowledge is power)! Knowing the mineral and biological composition of your soil is an important first step in deepening your relationship to the land you care about. The soil biology dictates what kinds of plants will thrive and how your soil will behave.

There is a lot we can share with you simply through visual observation of land and what plants are growing, what kind of erosion patterns are occurring, etc. Our first step may be to simply go to your land and have a conversation with you about how soil functions and what steps you can take to support your soil.

Microscope analysis - If you’d like to go deeper, we can perform a full microscopy analysis on your soil or compost and generate a report of what types of organisms are present and in what relative numbers. We will go through the report with you and help you understand what it means.

Give us a call or send an email through the “Contact Us” form and we can instruct you on sampling protocol.

  • Our favorite thing to do is share what we know about soil and ecology. While we consider education an integral part of our consultation offerings, this aspect of our work extends further into working with groups of all shapes and sizes to share the importance of soil and how we humans can work with it.

From school groups to multi-day, grant-funded workshops to festivals, we can work with you to help bring the invisible world of soil to life for your group. We are also able to help with event planning, including music and food.
